My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Ecclesiastes 5

Wealth

Summary:
God is awesome. Be careful when you come into his temple, and make sure you keep your promises to him!

Don't be surprised at the oppressed poor. Their wealth gets distributed up the ranks all the way to the king.

You can never have 'enough' money. I find that the poor hard worker generally sleeps better than the rich. Naked we come. Naked we leave.

Be happy in your work and with what you're got. Be too busy to think about life. It just depresses you.

Key verse:
15. Naked a man comes from his mother's womb,
and as he comes, so he departs.

My thoughts:
I think it is a bizarre truth that we all want to be richer, but that richer people generally aren't happier than people who just have enough.

"In a 1985 survey, respondents from the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans and the Maasai of East Africa were almost equally satisfied and ranked relatively high in well-being. The Maasai are a traditional herding people who have no electricity or running water and live in huts made of dung."
