My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Ecclesiastes 8

Our Lord, the King

Summary:
Follow the king. He is supreme. Then things will be sweet.

People don't learn if they aren't punished quickly. But even though bad people live a long time, it's better to live right.

Enjoy life as you can! The injustice that the good are punished and the wicked rewarded makes no sense!

No one can really understand what's going on.

Key verse:
17. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun.

My thoughts:
I find some of the King worship that goes on in Proverbs and Ecclesiastes a bit disturbing. He is seen as God on earth often.

This makes me think two things. 1) Suspicion and mistrust of those who rule us is not seen as the norm for faith (This is reiterated by Jesus). 2) The king as described here is a shadow of the King which is to come in Jesus, who is God on earth.
