My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Ezekiel 44

Priests and Levites

The Eastern gate was permanently shut because that was God's entranceway. Ezekiel was told to be careful with the purity of the temple. Israel had sinned in the past by letting foreigners in. The Levites can do the temple duties but can't be priests anymore because of their sins.

People are to wear linen when they come to the temple. Priests must have trimmed hair and only marry virgins. They are to distinguish between the clean and the unclean and keep as pure as possible. They will have no land, but God himself will be their inheritance.

Key verse:
23. They are to teach my people the difference between the holy and the common and show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean.

My thoughts:
Just like reading Leviticus! There is a massive emphasis on purity and holiness. There is always a bit of a tension between holiness and acceptance in the Old Testament.
