My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Jonah 3

Nineveh repents

This time Jonah obeyed God and went to Nineveh, and told them that they had forty days before being destroyed. They whole city believed, fasted and repented. Even the King ordered a fast, in the hope that God would show mercy. So God showed them mercy.

Key verse:
10. When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.

My thoughts:
Interesting how God declares destruction as a certainty in verse 4, but by verse 10, it is downgraded to a threat. This maybe puts the rest of Biblical prophesy into perspective! Maybe the use of certainty is more a warning than an actual certainty... interesting...

Anyway, God loves good ol' fashioned honest repentance. If you want to get God wrapped around your finger then do some good repentin'. Nineveh's vast repentance is kinda in contrast to Israel lack of repentance.
