My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Malachi 3

Tithes and offerings. Not just tithes.

Summary:
Before God comes, his messenger will make the way. God will be like a fire to refine though. It'll hurt.

God wants his people to return, but first they have to stop robbing him by withholding tithes and offerings. See what happens if you actually give your offerings for once! You think that following me is pointless! But God will spare those who has specifically decided to return to God.

Key verses:
8-10. "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
"But you ask, 'How do we rob you?'
"In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

My thoughts:
These key verses clearly and unambiguously are a command for us to give 10% plus offerings of our pre-tax income to the current (probably independent) church we attend in New Zealand in the 21st Century.

I mean, gosh, it must be. Why else would this be the only part of Malachi they quote in church?
