My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Malachi 4

Elijah kommt

The day of fire is coming, but the sun will shine on those who honour God. Remember the law, and that Elijah will come before that day to draw people back to God.

Key verse:
5. See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.

So here we are at the end of the Old Testament, and I think the Old Testament's one and only overall point is absolutely clear. Jesus is coming...

Seriously though, I always thought that the New Testament should start with Mark, because today's chapter contains the main prophecy used in reference to John the Baptist and his connection with Elijah. To go straight from this into the John the Baptist narrative of Mark would be an awesome transition...

Not that Malachi ends the Jewish Bible. Just the Old Testament of the Christian canon, but I have a feeling that Jewish faith would have little desire to connect Malachi 4 with Mark 1. Malachi 4 doesn't even exist to them. (It's merged with Malachi 3).

On to the New Testament! Exciting!
