My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Matthew 24

The End

Talking of end times, Jesus said that the temple edifice would be destroyed. There will be false Messiahs, and rumours of wars, but there will still be time. They will be persecuted, and some will leave the faith. When the temple is desecrated, then we should run. Ignore those claiming to be Christ - he will come out of heaven for all to see. Read the signs.

It will come suddenly. Jesus himself doesn't even know when. So be ready always.

Key verse:
44. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

My thoughts:
Basically all my opinions of end times comes down to this. We don't know when it's all going to happen, so constantly live ready. Live with a life that God will want when he comes back. Live as if it will be today. Don't worry too much about speculating about the finer details of it. Just live ready. You could die today, or Jesus could come back today. Live accordingly.

So Jesus says that he doesn't even know when the end is. This was edited out of later texts to make Jesus look more powerful, but was clearly in the original text as the lectio difficilior.
