My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

John 19

A man on a cross

Pilate had Jesus beaten and mocked, but they still wanted him dead. Jesus didn't defend himself, which Pilate thought was dumb. The Jews said he must die for being a king against Caesar. Pilate eventually handed him over.

Jesus was crucified with a sign proclaiming him as king. As he died, he made his mother adopt John. Jesus said "It is finished" and died. Everything happening according to the scriptures.

Joseph of Arimathea took the body and buried it in a tomb.

Key verse:
30. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

My thoughts:
Joseph is specifically mentioned in all the gospels, which is significant because Jesus' tomb being empty was the first witness of his resurrection. Therefore, you'd hope he was actually buried in one. Joseph is an unlikely candidate because he was on the Sanhedrin. You wouldn't make that up.

John is also careful to show that this all follows scripture.
