My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

John 5

Lord of the Sabath

Jesus healed a man at a pool on the Sabbath. He didn't know it was Jesus but later found out.

Jesus had to explain that God himself works everyday. Jesus only does what he sees his father doing. His father has entrusted lots to him, and you can only reach God through him. He is the way to escape condemnation.

John, God, and the scriptures have testified about Jesus. Jesus isn't that interested in the support of mere people.

Key verse:
19. I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

My thoughts:
John definitely has the most glorified view of Jesus out of all the gospel authors. John in this passage explicitly says that Jesus was making himself equal to God. Jesus rejects human testimony of himself.

Anyway, John 5:4 was an explanatory note which wasn't part of the original text and has been removed. I have the feeling that the pool at Bethesda has been found.
