My daily exploration of the Bible, taking it one chapter at a time. If I do it everyday, it'll take 1189 days.

Romans 11

The Gentile spin-off show!

Summary:
So did God ditch the Jews? No. I’m a Jew. God has saved a remnant by grace. God chose some to believe, and some not to.

God hasn’t given up on the rest though. God is being good to the Gentiles to make the Jews jealous. The Jew’s unbelief has saved the world, and their belief will only bring more life! Gentiles are like other plants living of the sap of the broken branches of Israel. They can’t boast over the tree whose brokenness gave them life! You can’t deny your root. They broke, and you golly well could too. God is both kind and stern.

God’s promise is still secure though. He will come one day to save all Israel. That’s just not now.
God is freaken’ awesome.

Key verse:
12. But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring!

My thoughts:
The reality is that this chapter has a higher view of the Jews in regard to salvation than most Christians will be willing to admit. God’s promise to them is still valid. The fact that we non-Jews have received mercy can only be understood in terms of the ultimate salvation of the Jews. What as awesome side-story we are to God’s plan!
