2 Corinthians 9

A promised gift

The Macedonians have heard about the generous gift you said you'd give them, so our friends are coming to you first just to make sure everything ready, and we're not embarrassed were it not to work out.

If you sow lots, you'll reap lots, but you shouldn't give under compulsion. God will look after you. He'll make you rich so you can give more, and all glory will go to him. Know that in your generosity everyone will be stoked, and will praise God and be thankful.

Key verse:
7. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

My thoughts:
Ah! It's all starting to make sense now! It appears that the Corinthians have promised to give a gift to some other churches, and Paul's strong words are just to make sure they keep their promise. Maybe Paul has trust issues! That kinda explains Paul's mixture of concern for and boasting about the Corinthians. Good times.

Verse 7 is good, appropriate, and all in context for when Preacher's are wrongly pressuring their people to give.
